The Riad Renovation Journey

Our Riad is situated in the famous Bab Doukkala part of the Medina. It was owned by a wealthy aristocratic family who had enough money they created their own water Well. The Well today has been covered over however the pulley used still exists in the courtyard. If only these walls could speak?! I wonder what they would share. Pregnant and elated that as the new year kicked off, we’d found the perfect riad and it was under offer by January 2020!

MARRAKECH JAN 2020
ORIGIANL RIAD

By Feb 2020 the world changed as we know it! Covid hit and we bought toilet paper to protect ourselves and everyone ended up in a war zone of lockdowns!! The light of my life came to planet earth, one month early on 24th June, 2020 and shortly after, we all went into lockdown. As everyone around me struggled to cope with staying indoors, I was trying to learn and navigate motherhood while also juggling the build of a new home just down the coast. Since the home wasn’t ready, we moved into a small place in Williamstown for three sleepless months.

Meet little Zahara Mellak. Her name means blossoming flower, and when shortened, Zara means princess. She is half Moroccan and half Australian.
