Ahmed, please tell us about your background in architecture?

I am currently an Architect (recently graduated) and a Design student (I studied in the design school before moving to architecture). I am deeply passionate about the interplay between form, function, and sustainability in architecture. Since 2022, I have been a content creator, using social media to explore and share the world’s architectural wonders. My journey in architecture is driven by a desire to uncover the stories behind both ancient and modern buildings and to inspire others with my unique perspective and vision.

What are the standout buildings and/or structures that you think are valuable to visit in Marrakech? And why?

Marrakech is home to several architectural gems that beautifully reflect its rich cultural heritage.

  • The Koutoubia Mosque is a must-visit with its stunning minaret and intricate design, symbolizing Islamic architecture at its finest.
  • The Bahia Palace showcases an exquisite blend of traditional Moroccan and Andalusian styles with its lush gardens and ornate interiors.
  • Another highlight is the Saadian Tombs, known for their intricate carvings and historical significance.
  • The Majorelle Garden and its vibrant blue villa, designed by Jacques Majorelle and later owned by Yves Saint Laurent, offer a serene escape with an artistic touch.

What first got you into creating content?

My passion for architecture and travel naturally led me to create content. Since 2022, I have been sharing my journey on social media, exploring new cities and their unique architectural landscapes.

I wanted to share the beauty and stories behind the buildings I studied and visited, as well as inspire others to embark on transformative journeys.

Seeing the positive impact and engagement from my audience further fueled my enthusiasm to create more insightful and visually appealing content.

What do you enjoy the most when coming to Marrakech?

What I enjoy most about Marrakech is the vibrant atmosphere that blends the old and new so seamlessly. The bustling souks filled with colourful textiles, spices, and local crafts are a sensory delight. I also appreciate the city’s rich history and stunning architecture, from the ancient medina walls to modern boutique Riads.

The warmth and hospitality of the locals make every visit memorable, and the culinary scene, with its delicious tagines and mint tea, is always a highlight.

What travel tips could you share for solo travellers?

For solo travellers, Marrakech offers a safe and enriching experience if you take a few precautions.

  • 1st, try to Stay in reputable accommodation, choose well-reviewed Riads or hotels and search about the neighbourhood.
  • 2nd, try to bend in dress modestly to respect local customs and avoid unwanted attention.
  • 3rd: Embrace the local culture and learn a few basic phrases in Arabic or French; locals appreciate the effort.

Or tips for couples?

Couples visiting Marrakech can enjoy a romantic and culturally rich experience. It s a must to choose a romantic riad, many riads offer private, intimate settings perfect for couples.

Indulge in a spa day. Many hotels and Riads offer traditional hammam experiences that couples can enjoy together. Savour a rooftop dinner and enjoy a meal with a view of one of Marrakech’s many rooftop restaurants or even the Riad itself.
