We love to serve and blend various teas here at Riad Botanica.

Upon arrival we serve every guest customary Moroccan mint tea. This tea has survived the test of time not only because of its delicious taste and intoxicating aroma, but also because of its many benefits for the body and the mind.

With its natural mood-stabilizing and sedative qualities that help you unwind after a long day, the tea also contains an amino acid called I-Theanine. It can encourage the body to relax by targeting GABA receptors in the brain that are responsible for feelings of stress; when your body feels better, so does your mind.

Moroccan mint tea may do wonders for digestive symptoms such as gas, bloating, constipation, and indigestion.

It is a natural remedy to help patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) due to the cooling effect of menthol in mint tea, which helps soothe an upset stomach and regulate digestion. Menthol can relax the stomach muscles that can contract and cause cramping. It also increases bile in the stomach which helps to digest food easily, decreases sensations of nausea, and keeps your digestive system working efficiently.

The warm Moroccan mint tea containing antibacterial properties aids in alleviating your throat discomfort, suppressing your cough, and opening up airways. Menthol in the mint tea may loosen and bring up mucus from the lungs, which is why mint appears in many cough drops. Menthol in the leaves also helps with the nasal sensation of overflow while getting rid of your congestion with compounds such as vitamin B, potassium, and calcium for your body to absorb.

Nigella seeds or Kalonij, the botanical name is used a lot in Moroccan cooking and adorns our signature Melbourne Breakfast.

Also known as black cumin, nigella or by its scientific name Nigella sativa, kalonji belongs to the buttercup family of flowering plants.

It grows up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall and produces a fruit with seeds that are used as a flavorful spice Packed With Antioxidants
Antioxidants are substances that neutralize harmful free radicals and prevent oxidative damage to cells.

Research shows that antioxidants can have a powerful effect on health and disease.

Several compounds found in kalonji, such as thymoquinone, carvacrol, t-anethole and 4-terpineol, are responsible for its potent antioxidant properties

anti-inflammatory effects in the body.
In one study in 42 people with rheumatoid arthritis, taking 1,000 mg of kalonji oil daily for eight weeks reduced markers of inflammation and oxidative stress (kalonji may have antibacterial properties and be effective at fighting off certain strains of bacteria.

One study applied kalonji topically to infants with a staphylococcal skin infection and found that it was as effective as a standard antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections

Kalonji has been shown to be especially effective at lowering cholesterol.
